They do not like to be left alone and should never be kenneled. These dogs need socialization throughout their lives. You will rarely meet a more loving animal than the beagle. They have a habit of crawling under your feet which means they can easily get hurt by bigger people walking heavily or jumping about. They are very gentle dogs and are tolerant of junior painters, pullers and huggers. Some Beagles are slightly wary of older kids who like to pull their ears or tail, but can handle them provided that they get regular exercise. They can be great with children provided that the children know how to treat them kindly. The Beagle is an excellent family dog due to their friendly and affectionate nature. If you do not provide them with a stimulating environment, then they may start to get destructive or bored and develop habits such as digging, chewing, barking or howling. These dogs should always have something to do. If you are looking for a dog that will snuggle up to you on the couch while you watch TV, the beagle is probably not for you. They like human companionship and will enjoy spending time with you, but they cannot live without physical contact which means being held, petted or stroked regularly. They can get bored easily and will often seek out new things to do. They tend to be friendly towards strangers, but may become aggressive when cornered. ![]() These dogs are known for their loving disposition and affectionate nature. Boxer beagles do not bark much, but they still need regular exercise, so they should always have a routine of some sort set up for them every day or at least once a week (or sooner if possible). Some boxers even prefer living indoors due to their calm personality and desire to stay inside. They are adaptable and will readily adjust to any home environment. There are over 100 different breeds of beagles in existence today! These days they are used for search and rescue work, police work, therapy animals, therapy dogs and many other uses. The breed was originally developed to assist blind dogs during hunting expeditions. They have been bred for their docile nature and love of humans. They are known as “the little dog with a big heart”.
